Producing initial design ideas

  • Students will begin by producing sketches so the director can see what the characters will look like in relation to one another and then (with the help of tailors) will make some sample costumes for characters to try.
  •  Upon completion of the course, students are well equipped with the skills and experience needed to design costumes, whether for theatre or cinema.
  • Depending on a graduate’s interests, he or she could go on to be the head costume designer for a given project, a position that requires more conceptual planning work and less hands-on costume creation.
